Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating a shooting outside a neighborhood club late Saturday that left nine people injured, two severely.

Two officers patrolling the neighborhood around Kensington and Allegheny avenues heard gunshots at 10:45 p.m., according to Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford.

The gunman emerged from a black car in the middle of the street and fired around 40 bullets at pedestrians, hitting nine individuals.

"At this point, it seems that these folks may have located someone they intended to shoot at, left the van, and began firing at the gathering of people that were there," Stanford continued.

"In terms of motive, we don't have much more than that."

There were no arrests made in connection with the incident. Stanford stated that police are aggressively looking for the culprit.

"Our men and women are where they should be in terms of patrolling, but we have some bold folks in this city that don't care," he added.

"They don't care how many police officers are present, and some of them don't care how many civilians are present."
