Officials say two individuals were killed when a twin-engine jet crashed into a car dealership lot just outside the southern Ohio city of Marietta on Tuesday morning.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the 1974 Beechcraft King Air E90 crashed in the parking lot of a Pioneer Buick GMC dealership, killing the pilot and another person.
According to FlightRadar24 data, the jet crashed just after 7 a.m. on its way from Columbus to Parkersburg, West Virginia.
There were no reported injuries to individuals outside the plane, but automobiles and structures at the dealership were destroyed, according to the highway patrol.
In a video of the event shared to Facebook by Amber Davis, a Marietta-area neighbor who heard an explosion and hurried outside to see what occurred, thick, black smoke and orange flames ascended from the parking lot.
Marietta police Cpt. Aaron Nedeff informed CNN that the fire had been extinguished.
According to an FAA statement, the incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
"The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide updates," the FAA said in a statement.
Marietta is a community of around 13,000 people located approximately 13 miles northeast of Parkersburg and just across the Ohio River from the Mountain State.
