NEW YORK – Subways have reopened in Midtown and Lower Manhattan after an unknown material was sprayed during a disagreement, according to authorities.

It happened soon after 10 a.m. on a Union Square platform.

According to police, the drug made numerous passengers unwell, including vomiting and coughing. One individual was brought to the hospital for medical attention.

The N/Q/R/W/4/5/6 lines were closed, and L trains were not running in Manhattan.

According to the MTA, the NYPD and FDNY concluded it was safe to restart service.

"Regular service has resumed on lines servicing Union Square after a brief halt due to FDNY and NYPD reaction at that station. The incident that prompted that response appears to be isolated "According to a statement issued by the agency.
