The Season 19 star was in Tennessee at the time of the incident, according to local news site Douglas Now, but no other information are known.

In her Instagram Story, Katharine McPhee appears to have verified Spence's death by uploading videos in his remembrance. During his stint on the show, the singer sang a duet with the "American Idol" runner-up.

"I received devastating news tonight." @williespenceofficial was killed in a vehicle accident. "I'm just 23 years old," McPhee, 38, wrote. "Life is so unfair, and nothing ever comes with a guarantee." Willie, may God rest your soul. It was an honor to sing with you and get to know you."

She also uploaded the most recent video Spence posted on social media, which shows him singing a Christian tune in the car.

"He posted this immediately before the accident," McPhee wrote, adding a weeping emoji and a broken heart emoji to his post.
