Liam Hemsworth will take over as Geralt of Rivia in the epic drama series, replacing Henry Cavill.

The move comes ahead of the series' third season, which will premiere in summer 2023. The Witcher: Blood Origin, a four-part prequel series, will be released on December 25, 2022.

Cavill, who announced earlier this week that he will reprise his role as Superman, starred in the first three seasons of the drama series as the gloomy Geralt of Rivia, the bane of magical beasties.

The Witcher is the narrative of three people whose lives are entwined in the immense continent of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters fight for survival and prosper, and where good and evil are not readily distinguished.

Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan also appear.

Hemsworth, best known for his role in the Hunger Games saga, most recently appeared in the Quibi thriller Most Dangerous Game. In what is considered to be a lucrative arrangement, he will take over as Geralt of Rivia.

According to reports, Cavill signed a short-term contract with The Witcher and thought it was time to move on after three seasons on the program, which films in Europe and has a tough production schedule. In addition to the Superman reboot, he already has film and television projects in the works, including the recently announced The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. According to insiders, Cavill's Witcher co-stars renegotiated their contracts ahead of Season 4.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the show's creator and executive producer. Executive producers include Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub, and Jarosaw Sawko.

"My trip as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and regrettably, I will be putting down my medallion and swords for season four," Cavill added. In my place, the magnificent Mr Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf. As with the best literary characters, I pass the torch with gratitude for the time spent as Geralt and excitement to witness Liam's interpretation of this most intriguing and nuanced of men. Liam, excellent fellow, this character has so much depth to him; enjoy delving in and seeing what you can uncover."

"As a Witcher fan, I'm overjoyed about the possibility to portray Geralt of Rivia," Hemsworth continued. Henry Cavill has been a fantastic Geralt, and I'm honored that he's handed me the reigns and asked me to pick up the White Wolf's swords for the next chapter of his story. I've been a fan of yours for years and was impressed by what you did with this cherished character. I may have large shoes to fill, but I'm really happy to be entering The Witcher universe."
