Kirkland Lake and Temagami are under a hail and severe thunderstorm warning.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kirkland Lake and Englehart on Wednesday afternoon. An earlier warning for North Bay and the surrounding region has been lifted.

"Environment Canada meteorologists are watching a severe thunderstorm capable of delivering hail the size of a nickel to a ping pong ball," the weather forecaster stated in a statement.

The strong thunderstorm was five kilometers southeast of Otter and traveling east at 95 kilometers per hour around 3:15 p.m.

"If hazardous weather is approaching, seek shelter immediately," Environment Canada said.

"Large hail can cause property damage and injuries. Any thunderstorm that forms is likely to produce intense lightning."

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when thunderstorms are expected to generate or are already producing one or more of the following: huge hail, severe winds, or copious rain.
