Ranger Suárez threw six scoreless innings as the Philadelphia Phillies advanced to their first postseason appearance in a decade with a 1-0 victory against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.
Matt Vierling drove home the game's lone run with a sacrifice fly to center in the second inning, scoring J.T. Realmuto.
Suárez gave up five hits, four strikeouts, and two walks. José Alvarado finished the six-hitter for his second save after Zach Eflin got five outs.
Philadelphia (82-67) came within a half-game of San Diego for the second wild-card slot in the National League and stayed 2 1/2 games clear of Milwaukee for the last postseason place.
The Phillies also have a season series advantage against the Brewers, which is the tiebreaker this year after Major League Baseball scrapped the single-game tiebreaker in its expanded postseason structure.
The Braves (93-57) slipped one and a half games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets (93-57). The two clubs will play their last three games against each other this season next weekend in Atlanta. Atlanta has clinched a postseason spot and is now placed as the National League's top wild card.
