A spate of gunshots in Memphis and a frantic police manhunt for a 19-year-old suspect that paralyzed Tennessee's second-largest city for five hours ended Wednesday night when police said they had apprehended the suspect.
Authorities asked people to stay indoors throughout the manhunt, which began shortly after the first shots were fired at 4:30 p.m. According to police, the individual was responsible for many shootings, some of which he may have recorded on Facebook Live.
The individual was recognized as Ezekiel Kelly by the Memphis Police Department. It was unclear whether charges will be filed against him, although officers described him as "armed and dangerous" during the search. It was unclear how many persons had been shot or whether the shooting was random.
Around 4:30 p.m., Memphis police reported two gunfire in separate places about a minute apart. According to police, a guy died at the scene of one of the shootings on East Parkway South. A woman was shot in the second shooting and was brought to the hospital in critical condition.
