A guy in Alabama shoots and murders his grandpa for refusing to give him the keys to his vehicle.
An Alabama man is accused of murdering his grandfather Thursday after he refused to hand over the keys to his van.
Jeremiah Long was charged with killing Thomas Parker, 71, around 3 a.m. after stealing the cellphones of his two grandparents.
Long was visiting from Georgia and staying with the victim and his wife when he woke them up and asked for the vehicle keys.
According to police, Long shot his grandfather in the chest and stayed in the house because he believed the victim's wife didn't have a phone to call police.
"They don't have cell phones and they're not able to call and get help quickly," Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said.
But the woman reportedly had another phone hidden and called her daughter for help.
"The phone call was what triggered the call to 911.
Long was still at the scene when officers arrived. Sheriff Franklin is "confident that we'll find that one of the underlying factors is his substance abuse."
"But we've a dead man and it's a very sad, tragic situation. I can only imagine what's going through the grandmother's mind," he added.
