Carl Nassib, the first active NFL player to come out as homosexual, has apparently signed with a new team.
According to ESPN, Carl Nassib and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers "reached agreement on a one-year contract" on Monday (15 August).
Nassib, who is starting his eighth NFL season, most recently played for the Las Vegas Raiders before being dismissed in March, less than a year after coming out as homosexual.
The NFL maintained the decision to release the player was purely financial, saving the organization roughly $8 million ahead of the pay ceiling for the year, and had nothing to do with Nassib's sexual orientation.

Carl Nassib is the first active NFL player to come out in June 2021.
Other athletes, including as Michael Sam, who was already out when he was picked by the St Louis Rams in 2014, have come out before or after their NFL careers. In 1975, David Kopay became the first NFL player to come out after retiring.
Nassib, 29, published a video reflecting on his choice to come out publicly in the same month he was released by the Raiders, calling it one of the most "stressful" things he has done to date, but also a "very joyful day."
"I had wanted to do it for a really long time," he says in the video. I wanted to be in a position where I felt completely at ease and secure in giving a voice to those who needed it the most."
Nassib said that he will be collaborating with the LGBTQ+ youth organization The Trevor Project to assist "teens who are struggling the hardest."
"That's who I care about the most, and to be able to say I helped them is really fantastic," he added.
While he is a "private guy," he is happy to offer "representation to the NFL."
In an Instagram video announcing his sexual orientation in 2021, the NFL athlete claimed he would contribute $100,000 to The Trevor Project to help prevent suicide among LGBT+ children.
The NFL then matched the gift, proudly announcing with it, "football is gay."
