After the loss of their baby, 4moms recollect nearly two million MamaRoo swings and RockaRoo rockers.

More than 2 million baby swings and rockers made by 4moms have been recalled due to a strangulation risk following the death of a 10-month-old newborn, according to a notice released Monday by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall affects 2 million MamaRoo Baby Swing versions 1.0 through 4.0, as well as 220,000 RockaRoo Baby Rockers marketed in the United States. Thorley Industries, located in Pennsylvania, owns 4moms.

According to the FBI, the 4moms swings and rockers were sold at BuyBuy Baby and Target stores across the country. The devices were priced between $160 and $250 and were sold from January 2010 to August 2022.

During the period, an additional 60,000 MamaRoo swings and 10,000 RockaRoo rockers were sold in Canada, according to the notification.

"When the swing or rocker is not in use, its restraint straps can drop below the seat, providing a strangling threat to non-occupant crawling infants," according to the recall notice.

According to the CPSC, 4moms received two reports of newborns becoming entangled in a strap after crawling underneath the MamaRoo swing. A 10-month-old newborn died from asphyxiation in one of the episodes, while the other infant received neck bruising.

Despite the fact that the firm had no reports of injuries linked to the RockaRoo, the item was recalled.

"4moms has worked proactively with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to recall approximately 2 million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers," the firm stated in a statement.

"When the swing or rocker is not in use, the restraining straps might drop below the seat, providing a strangling threat to crawling infants."

People who bought the implicated products should cease using them immediately and keep them out of reach of crawling infants, according to the company.

They also encouraged people to contact the firm in order to receive a "free strap fastener that will prevent the straps from stretching beneath the swing while not in use." The fasteners are accessible by phone or email upon request and arrive within 2-4 weeks.

4moms officials did not respond quickly to a request for any comment on the recall.
